Coquitlam Water Main
$668 million
Location: City of Coquitlam, B.C.
Owner: City of Coquitlam
METRO VANCOUVER is constructing a new water
main in Coquitlam to increase and optimize the
transmission system’s capacity to meet the
growing demand for drinking water in the region.
The Coquitlam Water Main is approximately 12
kilometres long, and 2.2 metres to 3.2 metres
in diameter. It will be constructed between the
north end of Pipeline Road and Mariner Way at
Riverview Crescent.
The main will be built in four sections, starting
with the Robson to Guildford Section from 2023
to 2026, followed by Cape Horn from in 2025.
Construction of the Pipeline Road North and
City Centre Tunnel sections is anticipated to
commence in 2026. The water main needs to be
commissioned by the early 2030s.
Site preparation work was completed for
the 1.4-kilometer-long Robson to Guildford
section in 2023, and construction will continue
throughout 2024. This year will also see design
work continue for the other three sections. •
