with new GHG inventory tool

HIS SUMMER’S DEVASTATING wildfire
season and searing temperatures across Canada
once again remind us of the urgent need to
reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. While
much attention is given to GHG reduction in
buildings and transportation, a lesser-known source
of GHGs is from the delivery of drinking water and
wastewater services. Canadian Water Network’s (CWN)
Net Zero Water Roadmap project is helping municipalities learn more about how to measure GHGs emitted
by their water services and how to mitigate them.
The Region of Waterloo, a Net Zero Water Roadmap participant, is leading the way by integrating GHG
measurement and reduction directly into its Water
Supply Master Plan.
Ensuring a safe, secure, and sustainable water supply
through to 2051 is a top priority for the Region of
Waterloo. For this reason, it is updating its Water Supply
Strategy, which builds on the Water Supply Master
