How wastewater is heating and cooling Toronto Western Hospital.

Toronto, Noventa’s Toronto Western Hospital WET
project is an impressive undertaking. WET, which
stands for wellness through evidence and technology,
exemplifies innovation and sustainability. This project
is the largest wastewater energy transfer in the world.
“It is providing about 90 per cent of Toronto Western
Hospital’s thermal energy on an annual basis by tying into
the sewer,” says Cam Quinn, Vice President of Project
Delivery at Noventa. The system connects to a trunk sewer
running beneath the hospital, using a wet well to pump

This process allows the hospital to use wastewater as a heat sink or
source to generate hot or chilled water for its HVAC systems.
