them to build up their expertise, but also to try new things.
New opportunities are constantly popping up, such as a job in
Florida, removing cyanide from the wastewater. “Removing cyanide is difficult, but we’re trying new things with our membranes
to make it work,” says Christou. “It feels like we’re just at the tip
of what the technology can do and as we get to do more and more
tests, we’re really going to be able to say what applications the
technology is best for.” The technology has been implemented
on projects all over North America, and is beginning to expand
to other continents as well. “Back in 2020, we were really just
about to get started, so things trickled along for a while. But
now we have our feet underneath us. We’re looking to expand
our footprint in North America and Europe, too.”
As Swirltex prepares for its next phase of development, the
company continues to refine and apply its technology in sectors
like food and beverage, where conventional treatment methods often fall short. “What we’ve been doing in the food and
beverage industry, especially in the slaughterhouse industry,
where we’re removing 4,000 BOD in a non-biological process,
is making a huge change financially for a lot of companies,” says
Christou. Recent membrane innovations—such as integrating
the spinning mechanism directly inside the membrane—reflect
an ongoing effort to simplify treatment processes. “Now I never
thought that it would be a hard thing to grasp, but people are
starting to get it, starting to believe the numbers that we’re getting,” Christou added. As understanding and acceptance of the
technology grows, so too does its potential impact.
