THE G.E. BOOTH (Lakeview) Water Resource Recovery Facility
(WRRF) is the largest wastewater treatment plant in the Region of
Peel. Originally commissioned in 1955, the facility has undergone
multiple expansions and now boasts a capacity of 518 million litres
per day (MLD). It serves the eastern portion of Peel and parts of York
Region, treating municipal wastewater from residential, commercial,
and industrial sources.
To support the construction of approximately 47,000 new housing
units, the plant is being expanded to increase its wastewater treatment
capacity. This expansion is part of Peel’s new capital works master
plan, set for completion in 2025, which assesses infrastructure needs
to meet growth projections under Bill 23.
One key project identi昀椀ed for early advancement is the investment
to boost capacity at the G.E. Booth WRRF by an additional 40 MLD. This
increase could accommodate between 28,000 and 47,000 new housing
units, depending on the development mix. •
