TOP 50 PROJECTS UPDATE
Peel Region Secures $2.39M for
G.E. Booth WRRF Energy Upgrades
RANKED 24TH ON WATER CANADA’S TOP 50 PROJECTS list in 2024, the Peel
Region has announced approval of a $2.39 million grant from the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) under the Industrial Energy Efficiency Program to support energy efficiency upgrades at the G.E. Booth Water
Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF).
The funding will be used to upgrade aeration blowers and implement a
more energy-efficient Ammonia-Based Aeration Control (ABAC) process.
This project is expected to save 12,000 MWh of electricity annually,
equivalent to reducing 456 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions and cutting
$1.3 million in electricity costs each year.
“These upgrades reflect our government’s commitment to affordability
by harnessing the latest technology to improve energy efficiency in our
infrastructure, all while reducing greenhouse gas emissions,” said Sam
Oosterhoff, Associate Minister of Energy-Intensive Industries. “This is a winwin for Peel families, resulting in millions of dollars in energy savings being
invested back into the community while increasing capacity on the grid to
attract further investment.”
The G.E. Booth WRRF project is expected to be completed by Q4 2026.
