THE NORTH SHORE Wastewater Treatment Plant
Program is a cutting-edge initiative designed
to address the pressing need for modern and
sustainable wastewater treatment solutions in
the rapidly growing North Shore communities of
Vancouver. This state-of-the-art facility aims to
replace the ageing Lions Gate Wastewater Treatment Plant, promising significant improvements
in both efficiency and environmental impact.
Central to the program is a commitment to leveraging advanced treatment technologies that meet
the highest standards for environmental protection
and resource recovery. The new facility will employ
tertiary-level treatment processes, which not only
remove harmful pollutants but also allow for the recovery of valuable resources such as water, energy,
and nutrients. Furthermore, the plant’s innovative
design prioritizes energy efficiency, greenhouse
gas reductions, and odour control, minimizing its
footprint on the surrounding community.
Construction for the innovative North Shore
Wastewater Treatment Plant kicked off in August
2018, and in 2019 the decision was made to move
from secondary to tertiary treatment technology. Fast forward to 2022: Metro Vancouver and
PCL Constructors Westcoast Inc. joined forces,
signing a pre-construction services contract to
ensure the project’s successful completion. The
team is now diligently working on an updated
plan, including a revised budget and schedule,
set to be unveiled in 2023. •
