THE FRENCH CREEK Pollution Control Centre
(FCPCC) treats wastewater serves 29,000
people and businesses in the communities
of: Qualicum Beach, Parksville, French
Creek, Pacific Shores, Surfside, and Barclay
Crescent.
The RDN is developing an expansion and odour
upgrade to: increase plant capacity by about 30
per cent and meet the service area demands
to 2040; improve operational efficiency and
replace aging infrastructure in the existing plant;
incorporate extensive odour control upgrades
for the existing plant; include odour controls
for the expansion; and contribute to carbon
neutrality by using solar panels and recovering
heat from treated effluent. •

THE WELLAND WATER Treatment Plant,
located at 4 Cross Street in Welland, Ontario,
is a crucial infrastructure asset for the Niagara
Region, supplying treated surface water
from the Welland Canal/Lake Erie to the city.
Currently, the Niagara Region is undertaking
major upgrades to the plant, including a new
transmission main, modernized disinfection
(UV/chlorination), and increased capacity,
with construction scheduled into 2026. •
