GATINEAU’S WABASSE STREAM’S watershed covers
approximately seven square kilometres and flows into the Ottawa
River through its outlet in Sanscartier Park. The City of Gatineau has
launched an infrastructure program aimed at improving rainwater
management and enhancing the watershed’s resilience to better
adapt to climate change. The program includes more than 10
intervention zones throughout the watershed.
The Government of Canada has granted approval in principle
to fund 40 per cent of eligible project costs through the Disaster
Mitigation and Adaptation Fund.•

Leamington Northeast Trunk Sewer

THE NORTH EAST Trunk Sanitary Sewer Line will extend from
the Leamington Pollution Control Centre north to Mersea Road
4 and County Road 18 to the adjacent employment lands. Once
complete, it will: Enable housing growth, supporting up to 6,500
new residential units; open new industrial and employment
lands, attracting businesses and jobs; reduce reliance on septic
systems, particularly for greenhouses and farmworker housing;
support Leamington’s greenhouse sector, strengthening food
security and the local economy; and protect Lake Erie through
modern, centralized wastewater management. •

Brighton Wastewater Pollution Control Plant

THE NEW FACILITY will replace the municipality’s existing pond-based
wastewater system with a modern mechanical treatment plant designed to
operate more efficiently and meet higher environmental standards.
The new facility will include a new operations building, new headworks,

primary and secondary treatment systems, UV disinfection, an effluent
outfall to Presqu’ile Bay, and biosolids handling equipment. The project
